In its 98th year, the Austin, Texas, ABC Kite Fest is one of the longest-running events in the city.
“There aren’t many things in Austin that have been going strong for nearly a century, and that’s what makes this festival so special,” said Bobby Jenkins, owner, ABC Home & Commercial Services, the event’s title sponsor since 2014. “I want my grandkids to bring their grandkids to Zilker Park someday and see that same sky full of kites. That’s what it’s always been about — giving people a reason to get outside, be together and make memories they’ll carry with them forever.”
So, what can you expect if you attend this year’s Kite Fest on April 11?
The expansive and free event takes place at Zilker Park. You can pre-purchase a parking pass to park directly at the park or take a shuttle bus (with passes also available in advance).
Highlight events include a kite contest and showcase, free to enter and awards participants in categories such as “most unusual kite.” Famous kite flyers will be on site to show off their handiwork as well.
Families will enjoy a kid-focused concert and similar entertainment, while pet parents will appreciate the Pet Zone, with its play area and pet-friendly food. Vendors will be on site, too, offering local items, food and drinks.
