After a short hiatus, the beloved Ford Bronco is making a return, with a major difference under the hood.
Ford confirmed the Bronco will make its return in 2020, and surprised fans by revealing the new version will have a diesel-electric hybrid engine. The Bronco Bolt will use a first-of-its-kind power unit developed by Ford and Tesla engineers.
Before Bronco fans explode at the news their truck is being turned into some sort of Toyota Prius on stilts, take a look at the stats. The power unit will propel the 4,800-pound truck from 0-60 mph in just 5.8 seconds, making it one of the fastest trucks on the market.
Fuel efficiency is set to be incredibly impressive, as is the adjustable intelligent suspension. When you’re in town, the suspension will use just four inches of clearance, but this increases to eight inches with a touch of a button.
If you want to have a bit of fun with your new Bronco Bolt, you can enable the Dance Sync feature. When it’s turned on, the car will bounce in time with the music you are playing.
However, it’s not just about musical trickery as the Bronco Bolt makes use of computer software to improve off-road performance. “Crawl” mode limits wheel slip to enable the vehicle to get out of sticky situations, and a power winch is included as standard on each Bronco Bolt.
By using cutting-edge technology, Ford is bringing a much-loved, traditional vehicle into the 21st century, and the results look stunning. The only bad thing is we will have to wait until 2020 to get our hands on one.
