The British Virgin Islands is hosting its BVI Food Fête Oct. 30–Nov. 27. The month-long line-up of events all revolve around culinary exploration, with well-known festivals such as the Anegada Lobster Festival alongside island bar crawls, chef demonstrations and specialized menus. Check out some of the not-to-be-missed festivities below.
The Barefoot Gourmet Soiree takes place Oct. 30. In an ocean-side setting, seven chefs prepare signature dishes live for diners on the beach. Each course is paired with a selection of wines and an award-winning pastry chef and chocolatier serve up dessert. Tickets are $150 each.
Taste of Tortola, Nov. 5, is a large celebration featuring a live demo kitchen, fish and fungi competition (to celebrate the national dish of the British Virgin Islands), mixologist competition, live entertainment, dancing and the Tortola “Best of” awards, including recognition of the island’s best restaurants, dishes and drinks.
The similar Peter Island Caribbean Food Festival is Nov. 11–12, and brings chefs from all over the Caribbean to the British Virgin Islands for competitions and tastings.
The most popular event, however, is most likely the Anegada Lobster Festival, Nov. 26–27. Enjoy lobster dishes of every type and variety, prepared by local chefs and served up at nearly every local restaurant.
In addition, many of the hotels and resorts on the island participate, offering special experiences to match the festivities. One, Peter Island Resort & Spa, offers special room rates for the month, plus rum appreciation events and mixology classes.
