Mexico’s second-biggest city is a sprawling metropolis that continues to grow apace, but there are lots of good options when it comes to getting around.
Buses are everywhere in Guadalajara but they can be confusing. If you have some Spanish you’ll be able to get around, but be aware bus lines vary in quality. The best ones are the turquoise buses, which are fairly comfortable, but there are also Macrobus and Tren Ligero lines on certain routes.
If you can’t get where you need to go by bus, there are always taxis. They have a better reputation in Guadalajara than many other Mexican cities, but it’s always best to book one in advance where possible.
Another option is to order an Uber, as the ride-sharing app has operated in the city for some time. Drivers are allowed to work by law, so there are no issues like there are in some other Mexican cities.
Other transportation options include horse-drawn carriage tours in the center of town. It’s also worth noting every Sunday the arterial roads of the city are closed to cars for a few hours, with bikes, skateboards and other non-motorized vehicles taking their place.
