Hewn Spirits

Peddler’s Village, located in Pennsylvania’s Bucks County, is an outdoor shopping and dining mall with cute boutiques, gift shops, art galleries and restaurants, as well as my new favorite spot, Hewn Spirits.

The micro-distillery recently opened in Peddler’s Village, offering a warm, cozy place to escape the crowds. On a recent visit, we heard great music from outside and followed it inside a living room-esque bar, complete with fireplaces and large leather chairs and couches.

Using local grain and an old-school style of distilling, Hewn Spirits makes five distinctive liquors — Shipmate Gold Rum, Dark Hollow Pennsylvania Bourbon Whiskey, Red Barn Rye Whiskey, Reclamation American Single Malt Whiskey and New Moon Moonshine.

At the Peddler’s Village location (one of two), they offer tastings, cocktails and bottles for purchase. The night we visited was freezing, so I opted for the hot apple cider spiked with Shipmate Gold Rum, while my friend ordered a spiked hot chocolate. The bartenders were knowledgeable and we loved listening to the creative cocktails everyone ordered, including blueberry lemonade spiked with moonshine, and a Navy Grog, made with rum, lime, grapefruit juice, honey and club soda. The Old Fashioneds are also apparently delicious, though we didn’t have one.

If you’re going to shop, stop in to Hewn Spirits and, even if you’re not planning to shop, it’s worth a visit to Peddler’s Village just for this great spot. Drinks are a little pricey, so don’t be surprised when you get a bill for $14 for one drink.
