How to Eat Your Way Through London’s Borough Market

Planning a trip to London always calls for a stroll through Borough Market. As the city’s premier food market, I did extensive TikTok research prior to my visit, so I knew exactly what items to save my appetite for.

Here are the highlights:

The Black Pig’s Pork Sandwich

We skipped the crowded line for the viral chocolate-covered strawberries and headed toward The Black Pig, where a specific sandwich called my name (thanks to TikTok). Named The Best One, this sandwich was filled with slow-roasted pork shoulder, honey truffle Parmesan mayonnaise, salsa verde, pepperoncini sott’olio, fennel apple slaw and 30-month aged Parmesan cheese. All piled on a ciabatta roll, it was worth every pound.

Bread Ahead Bakery’s Doughnuts

Next, to satisfy our sweet tooth, we headed toward Bread Ahead Bakery for its well-known doughnuts. Though all its flavors looked enticing, the crème brûlée doughnut has been popular on social media for some time now. Naturally, we put the Internet’s opinion to test.

Torched on the outside with a salty, caramelized crunch, the inside was filled with a gooey homemade custard, offering the perfect balance of sweet and salty in each bite.

The Ginger Pig’s Sausage Roll

With full stomachs and already running late for our flight home, we were ready to call it quits. However, no trip to Borough Market is complete without a hot sausage roll from The Ginger Pig.

Exceeding both our expectations, we saved half for later so we could savor a second wave of enjoyment. I refrained from getting a Scotch egg, a newfound obsession gained during my time in England.

My next trip to Borough Market will include a visit to The Bath Dairy for the popular mac and cheese and a Scotch egg from The Ginger Pig.
