How to Experience the Twixmas Travel Trend

If you haven’t heard of the Twixmas travel trend, it might just come in handy as your new excuse to plan an extra vacay. “Twixmas” refers to the time period between Christmas and New Year’s. It’s “betwixt” “Christmas and the start of the year.

Now, normally, you might spend that entire week in sweatpants eating leftover pie, but this could be the year you actually pack a bag and spend those few days capping the month off on the right note.

While the trend may not be all that common in the mainstream travel lexicon just yet, it’s growing popularity among destinations and travel providers who promote their cities and offerings as exactly what you need this time of year.

For example, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, encourages folks to come out for a Twixmas getaway specifically aimed at extending the holiday cheer past Christmas. The destination has plenty going on through the week, with the Christmas Spirit light show at Penn Medicine Park still open, and holiday shows at Fulton Theater continuing, as well. The Amish Christmas Experience is still an option to add to your itinerary, as is Yuletide at Wheatland.

Of course, if you don’t fancy traveling during Twixmas and you really do like spending this week in a couch-based haze, you might opt to use the week’s other name: Feral Week.
