Newfoundland and Labrador are some of the top locations for iceberg viewing, with thousands of bergs drifting by each year, attracting travelers on the hunt for their next spotting.

In order to cater to these travelers, Newfoundland & Labrador Tourism launched a new version of IcebergFinder.com, which uses satellite technology and real-time sightings by tour operators to provide updates for icebergs traveling along Iceberg Alley. A new feature is the ability to upload photos to the IcebergFinder map, making the experience more user-friendly and accurate. For tourism providers, the app connects them to travelers to help with planning.

However, there’s much more to iceberg tracking in this region than simply hunting down and finding these magnificent natural wonders.

Ocean Quest Adventures offers a Drink an Iceberg excursion, for adventurers who want a closer take (or taste). Over three hours, sailors drift on inflatable boats up to an iceberg to fetch some ice shards for their drink of choice.

If you want to combine your drink with bergs, but don’t quite want to take to the water, several breweries can cater to your needs. Split Rock Brewing Co. in Twillingate offers great views of Iceberg Alley, while Quidi Vidi Brewing Co. in St. John’s produces Iceberg Beer using water from 10,000-year-old ice. Dildo Brewery Tap Room and Museum in Dildo opens this month for local beer combined with local history.

You can also combine your berg hunt with a search for some other northern residents — namely whales and birds. Boat tours take you to puffin colonies and along the routes of humpback whales.
