Which are the Best Airlines, Airports for Flight Deals?

While it’s possible to find a great flight deal for just about any trip — if you’re flexible and savvy about it, that is — there are some airlines just more likely to offer you a good deal than others, and some airports that consistently offer cheaper flights.

A recent study from Going identified these airlines and airports, based on data gleaned from more than 45,000 U.S. flights over the course of a year.

According to the data, the top airports for the best domestic flight deals are Denver (DEN), New Orleans (MSY) and Orlando (MCO). Meanwhile, the top airports for the best international flight details are Boston (BOS), New York (JFK) and Newark (EWR).

As for the top U.S. airlines for the best domestic flight deals, the study identified American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Southwest as the top three.

The study also looked at the airports where it’s, in contrast, most difficult to find a good deal on airfare, with stand-out airports including Honolulu (HNL), Anchorage (ANC) and Oakland (OAK), among others.

“With most travel headlines featuring affordability right now, we built these rankings around what actually matters to travelers: not just the price of the ticket, but how deep the discount is and how often a good deal comes around. An airport that has one amazing fare a year isn’t as valuable to travelers as one that delivers solid deals every week. That’s the kind of everyday practical knowledge we wanted this data to reflect,” commented Willis Orlando, flight expert, Going.
