With Icelandair offering affordable flights to Europe and layover stops in Iceland along the way, many travelers choose the airline for international travel.
Arriving at Newark (EWR) shortly before my evening flight departed, I was instantly impressed at the check-in desk when the airline representative offered to bump my husband and I up 11 rows in the economy cabin. We gladly took her offer and then equally enjoyed the quick and painless security line.
The only unpleasant portion of the pre-departure experience was the terminal. Icelandair flights depart out of at Newark’s Terminal B3. Small, with limited dining options, it wasn’t impressive.
Once onboard, we were each given bottles of Icelandic water as we boarded, and found blankets and pillows waiting for us at our seats. With 32 inches of legroom, though, I didn’t feel I had enough space to truly relax. However, thankfully, Icelandair offers complimentary entertainment on all flights, so I had plenty to keep me occupied during the five-hour flight.
While there aren’t a ton of movies, TV shows, music and audio books offered, those available are satisfactory, and there’s something for everyone, from 1990s romantic comedies to the latest thrillers. The individual touchscreens also offer flight information, shopping, games for children and a place to charge your USB-powered device.
The cabin crew was friendly and attentive, as they served up a selection of Icelandic food and drinks. I enjoyed the local vodka, Reyka. They also offer salads, sandwiches and a variety of snacks.
Before I knew it, we were in Iceland, disembarking onto the tarmac, to board a shuttle that would whisk us to the airport.
All in all, Icelandair offered a quality service I would recommend and use for future travel.
