Tips / Destination

New York City isn’t all about Manhattan; we already know this. Sometimes, however, you just aren’t in the mood for the subway. NYC has its fair share of ferries that will take you wherever you want to go; you just have to know how to find them. From transportation to tourism, NYC has a ferry for you.

Staten Island Ferry

The ferry we’ve all heard of, the Staten Island Ferry is NYC’s oldest, biggest and most consistent ferry line. Connecting the South Ferry Terminal in Manhattan to the St. George Terminal in Staten Island, the free ferry offers amazing views of the lower Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty. Don’t forget to check out the snack bar, grab a cheap beer and enjoy the view.

East River Ferry

Operating year-round, the East River Ferry floats on a route along the East River between East 34th-35th Street and Pier 11-Wall Street, making stops at landings in Brooklyn and Queens. Connecting Wall Street to the Brooklyn hipsters, the ferry is especially convenient for those quick Williamsburg escapes.

New York Waterway

The fastest and most convenient way to cross the Hudson River, New York Waterway ferries are perfect for commuting to work, heading to Manhattan for dinner and a Broadway show, or merely escaping New Jersey. New York Waterway operates several different lines, departing and arriving at many destinations throughout Manhattan and New Jersey.

Tourist Ferries

NYC ferries aren’t all for the local, working New Yorker. You can’t get much better views of the skyline than from the river, and ferries are great, cheap options to do so. Sightseeing cruises include trips to the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and even Yankee Stadium. Check the New York City website for a complete list.
