MileNorth Chicago is situated right across from where East Superior and North Saint Clair meet, about a block from Michigan Avenue. While I personally prefer to stay right on Michigan Avenue, I can see the appeal of staying just a bit off — you get the closeness of the shopping and dining, without the same crowds every time you step outside, particularly during the Christmas shopping season.
Most of the outside of the hotel is unassuming and you’d probably miss it unless you were specifically looking for the bright neon sign. The inside, however, is modern and fun, with contemporary décor and accents of bright colors. The standard guestrooms are definitely bigger than some of the other cramped and tiny standard guestrooms that you’ll find elsewhere in Chicago, which I appreciate. The large windows let in a good amount of light if you get a good view, and the sleek furniture design is akin to what you’d find in many other hotels in the area that are trying out a “modern” look.
The amenities are nothing to get excited about, but they do have complimentary WiFi in each room, which every hotel really should have at this point. The bedside alarm clocks are CD-compatible, which I found odd, seeing that it’s been quite a few years since I traveled with a CD collection in tow.
The hotel’s Barista Bar off the lobby has a few options for those who want to grab and go, but their full menu didn’t look too shabby either. It seems there’s plenty of room for hotel guests who want to hang around after meetings or before going out for the night with a few cocktails or a craft beer.
Overall, MileNorth offers an affordable and easy accommodation option for those visiting Chicago for a night or two, where there’s nothing to disappoint, yet nothing to overly impress guests, either.
