Namibia might be the least populous country in all of Africa, but it’s also home to some of the continent’s most amazing wildlife. A 12-day tour biking across its diverse landscape is the perfect way to experience all the country has to offer.
HI Adventures is offering an epic mountain biking adventure across Namibia’s wild outback and the opportunity to see many of the country’s charming creatures up close and personal. It’s a much more vibrant experience than wandering through a safari in a car.
The trip begins in Windhoek where the group will gather to head out into the desert. Along the way you’ll come across zebra, oryx, kudu and even the errant leopard or cheetah if you’re lucky.
Stops along the path include sunset Sossuvlie and a visit to the sand dunes, dining on Soltaire’s famous apple pies and a run on the dry riverbed of the Kuiseb. From the Skeleton Coast to the Huab River, you’ll encounter elephant herds and lions. At night, you’ll sleep in luxurious meru-style tents before embarking on the final leg of the journey that’ll see you arrive in Etosha National Park where you’ll finally lay eyes on a giraffe.
The trip can contain some pretty technical singletrack at times so it’s not recommended for beginner cyclists. There are only a few trips throughout the year so it’s important to book ahead. Check out their website for available dates next year.

Clear nights in Texas allow for some of the best stargazing opportunities in the country. In spring, various locations across the state provide dark skies to not only see distant stars but also the Milky Way as it rises in the Northern Hemisphere. In fact, on April 8, 2024, Texas will offer prime viewing for the total solar eclipse, which will take place over Mexico, the United States and Canada. This eclipse will cover some areas of Texas in total darkness for more than four minutes, nearly twice the duration of totality during the 2017 eclipse.
