At a time in our country when civil rights are once again at the forefront of the conversation, I thought it would be a great idea to stop by the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center while in Cincinnati. It was such a rewarding experience and the center is filled with information every American should learn.

The Center is a history museum that highlights freedom’s heroes — those who fought valiantly to attain equal rights — and to bridge the gap between the heroes of the past with those still fighting today. It highlights the struggles of the African American experience in the country and educates visitors on ways in which the battle is still being fought.

The museum is made up of three separate buildings, meant to signify courage, cooperation and perseverance, and contains rotating exhibits and one-offs about the lives and efforts of famous, and not so famous, civil rights leaders. There are showcases centered on Martin Luther King Jr. as well as Rosa Parks. In addition to these, the center also hosts numerous lectures, films and family programs throughout the year.

I truly enjoyed my time here and learned so much about this nation’s history and the role of African Americans that I didn’t know before. I highly recommend checking it out when in town.

United flyers are sure to notice these enhancements from the moment they step on board: Each new or updated plane sports remodeled seats, seatback entertainment screens for everyone, Bluetooth connectivity and more, all adding up to a better experience on every journey.
