The nation’s capital is home to one of Major League Baseball’s youngest ballparks, Nationals Park, where the Washington Nationals baseball team plays from April until fall. The introduction of the stadium in 2008 in D.C.’s southeast quadrant encouraged a slew of businesses to follow suit and set up shop in the once seemingly abandoned neighborhood. With the breath of new life, the area has thrived as the go-to center for outdoor sports, food and beer.
Nats Park was the first LEED-certified stadium in the country promoting environmentally friendly construction and facilities.
When hunger strikes, Nationals Park does not disappoint with its more than 40 food and beverage options including Chesapeake Crab Cake Company, Shake Shack and Bullpen Burritos.
If you’re not willing to pay for one of the 40,000 stadium seats, buy the cheapest ticket possible and head to the Red Loft, a balcony bar with standing places that overlooks the outfield. Just below is the Red Porch, the stadium’s only outdoor dining patio that looks over the field. Sit back and enjoy wait service while you watch the team play.
After the last pitch, head across the street to the Fairgrounds, an outdoor after-party with live music, baseball-related games, local food trucks and beer that’s a lot cheaper than the stadium’s offerings. Play ball!
