New Plane Will Help You Beat Jet Lag

A new plane has been constructed with the goal of helping reduce jet lag, thanks to the use of special air filters and a special lighting system.

Airbus says its air management system aboard Qatar’s new Airbus A350-1000, used between London (LHR) and Doha (DOH), renews the air every two to three minutes in the cabin. It contains 20 percent more fresh air, and the system controls humidity and temperatures in multiple zones of the plane.

Airbus says the plane offers the lowest cabin altitude on the market (6,000 feet versus 8,000 feet), which can help passengers scope with long journeys and stay more relaxed while flying. Jet lag symptoms occur at altitudes of 6,500 feet and above, resulting in fatigue and shortness of breath.

The plane also has a quiet twin-aisle cabin, allowing for better sleep. The flat floor provides a bit more legroom, too.

Passengers also get treated to LED ambient lighting. The airline can choose from among a slew of color options to create mood lighting scenarios throughout the flight. Lighting can mimic a natural sunrise, for example, to help passengers wake up and reduce the effects of jetlag. The cabin can also go fully dark while people are sleeping.
