Within the past few years, Norwegian Air quietly made its way onto the discount travel scene with its no-frills, cheap-fare flights in and around Europe. As of late, the airline expanded to a handful of cities in the United States, bringing direct competition to the big-name airlines that fly the same trans-Atlantic routes. Although the big-brand airlines still offer guests amenities like in-flight meals and free checked bags (for the time being), Norwegian noticed some passengers don’t mind forgoing these services if it saves them a few hundred dollars on airfare.

This year Norwegian plans to expand its services by connecting popular European cities with a few new U.S. cities. Beginning this summer, Norwegian will fly from Amsterdam (AMS), Madrid (MAD) and Milan (MXP) to New York’s John F. Kennedy International and Los Angeles International airports. These non-stop flights will range in price from $229 for a one-way ticket from Los Angeles to Madrid and Milan, and from New York to Madrid, and $199 for a one-way ticket from New York to Amsterdam.

These fares cover main cabin seats, plus taxes and some airport fees. Passengers will be responsible for any baggage fees, as well as in-flight meals and snacks, although snacks will be available for purchase via the seatback ordering and payment system. Passengers can also pre-order three-course meals for about $45–50.

Interior Upgrades Begin Rolling Out Across United Fleet

United Airlines is in the midst of a major initiative to modernize its fleet over the next several years. After first announcing the plan in 2021, planes fitted with United’s signature interior are finally beginning to appear across the airline’s narrowbody fleet of Boeing and Airbus planes. United flyers are sure to notice these enhancements from the moment they step on board: Each new or updated plane sports remodeled seats, seatback entertainment screens for everyone, Bluetooth connectivity and more, all adding up to a better experience on every journey.
