During a recent Kansas City trip, my husband and I visited several barbecue restaurants. Q39 was one of my favorites.
We arrived during the start of lunchtime and the restaurant was packed. We put our names in for a table and the hostess told us the wait would be about 30 minutes. We made our way to the bar to wait. The bartender greeted us and asked if we were dining in and if we wanted to eat at the bar, as there was plenty of space available. I canceled our spot in line by conveniently texting the reservation number and we cozied up to the bar.
The friendly bartender presented us with menus, offered suggestions and talked about the restaurant’s history. He suggested ordering from the lunch plates section of the menu, which we did, to experience more options.
My husband ordered a two-meat plate with brisket, burnt ends and a side of baked beans. I opted for an order of ribs with a side of apple coleslaw. Despite the crowds, our food arrived quickly. In general, ribs are one of my favorite barbecue options and the version from Q39 was great. The meat was tender and the sauce was sweet and tangy but not overpowering.
For superb service and award-winning barbecue, make your way to Q39.
