The antiques market is a tricky one and Chicago proves a little more difficult in this field than other cities. Many places like New York or Baltimore have an “antiques row” area of town where dealers are established. Here, the novice or expert buyer can peruse for business or pleasure to their hearts content, whenever they please. Chicago does not offer this kind of compartmentalized experience.

In Chicago, the antique stores and vintage warehouses are spread around town requiring the visitor to either drive extensively, make multiple trips or settle for one location to the exclusion of others. There is one exception … The Randolph Street Market.

This market brings together antique and vintage dealers, as well as designers and food purveyors from all over the city. It is a unique experience that happens approximately once a month, so check the website for the schedule. There is an admission fee of approximately $8 or $5 for students and seniors, but only because the market is not subsidized by the city or state. The price is worth it. You can spend hours strolling through the eclectic collections. It is open from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. on participating weekends.
