Sloths gained as much internet popularity as some of our other favorite animals (from otters to penguins to piano-playing cats), and now you have the chance to meet sheltered sloths all from the comfort of your luxury resort.
Nayara Springs, the award-winning property in Costa Rica, recently opened its Sloth Sanctuary, a safe haven for more than 15 sloths. To make the animals feel right at home, Nayara planted 300 Cecropia trees, the sloth’s primary food source, attracting even more of the friendly creatures from the surrounding region.
Guests staying at Nayara Springs and also Nayara Resort, Spa & Gardens (the two are side by side) can enjoy a look at the gentle creatures as they chill in the treetops above, right next to the properties. However, those aren’t the only animals guests at Nayara will spot. The new forestry is also home to a wide selection of birds, some reptiles and amphibians, including tree frogs and native hummingbirds.
There’s so much more to this property than just the Costa Rican wildlife, though. Located within the Arenal Volcano National Park (where the world’s third most-active volcano is situated), the two 5-star resorts are set on 15 acres in the rainforest. Nayara Resort is an oasis, with 50 private bungalows, each with its own private terrace and Jacuzzi tub. Cross the foot bridge to the adults-only Nayara Springs and you’ll find new expansions from earlier this year, including 35 luxury villas with views of the volcano, its own private mineral hot springs pools and private gardens.
