Sebasco Harbor Resort & Golf Club appears suddenly. You’re driving through rural Maine, near seemingly nothing at all, even though you’re aware the Atlantic Ocean lies just ahead. Then, you pop up and there it is.

The resort gives old-school vibes. Dirty Dancing meets the Maine coast. A smattering of historic buildings stretches across the landscape, interspersed with pines. One drives up to the reception building and checks in (Champagne provided upon doing so, of course) and then heads to their accommodations before exploring further.
During my trip to this resort in Phippsburg, Maine, we originally intended to stay in the main lodge. However, after some problems with our room and the following room, I eventually ended up in the Fairwinds building, which was an absolute delight. The room itself, while not entirely modern, offered ample space and amenities, as well as a balcony overlooking the water. One can’t complain too much when sitting on their balcony, drink in hand, watching the boats come in and out throughout the day, and then the stars and satellites drifting by overhead after nightfall.
The resort offers multiple dining options. Ledges Pub is a lively little spot for dinner, and where I enjoyed some excellent fish and chips and then, later in the trip, a lobster roll. The same restaurant serves breakfast in the morning on its second floor. While the breakfast is pretty standard, the views make up for the mediocrity. Another eatery on the property serves more casual bites and some of the best gluten-free pizza I’ve ever had (a tall order).

One unique part of the property is its historic candlepin bowling lanes. A New England classic, this was a treat and completely free for guests. The same building holds arcade and table games, attracting families and couples alike.
Then there is the resort’s pool. Heated and surrounded by loungers, it is situated so that one can look out over the water and the boats anchored nearby — an excellent poolside view if I’ve ever seen one.
All in all, I would gladly return to Sebasco Harbor Resort & Golf Club. Its charm makes it a true escape in a travelers’ world that is desperate for disconnection.
