Tips / Other

Goa trance is the original genre that gave way to full-on, the high-energy, party variant of psytrance huge in Israel. Here are seven tracks to prepare you for the rush.

“Gamma Goblins Pt. 2” by Astral Projection (1997)

These Tel Aviv natives were instrumental in bringing psytrance to the masses with the Trust in Trance compilation and its namesake label.

“Teleport” by Man With No Name (1994)

Martin Freeland has produced electronic music since the beginning, starting with acid house. His first Man With No Name release was him experimenting with the Detroit techno sound, four years before “Teleport” helped define Goa trance.

“Release Me” by Infected Mushroom (1999)

These two guys are the most recognizable names in psytrance. Hailing from Haifa, Infected Mushroom has 10 albums, though most ravers say the earlier work is what makes them great.

“Acid Rocker” by Astrix (2010)

Another Israeli superstar, Astrix, while Infected Mushroom branched out into other genres, sticks with his trademark full-on sound with rolling baselines and uplifting melodies that induce euphoria.

“Salvia Divinorum” by 1200 Micrograms (2002)

1200 Micrograms is a psytrance supergroup made up of Riktam and Bansi from GMS and Raja Ram of the highly acclaimed ambient project Shpongle.

“Mental Hotline” by Space Buddha (2006)

Space Buddha is another Tel Aviv DJ whose style crosses into the dark psy category. Dark psy has a menacing sound that takes the energy of psytrance and mixes a little anger into it.

“LSD” by Hallucinogen (1995)

Hallucinogen’s Twisted album is probably the most influential of the genre, introducing people to the idea of psychedelic trance for the first time.
