Taking a solo vacation can be an exhilarating experience. However, traveling alone does come with its own set of safety concerns.
Research the Destination
There are plenty of domestic and international cities geared more toward solo travel. Before you book a trip, do some research about the destination to see if it’s safe and friendly for solo visitors.
Pack Smart
Even if you don’t plan to travel far with your bags in tow, make sure you are able to easily carry your luggage. If there is a situation where you need to move quickly with your bags, like through the airport, you need to be able to handle it on your own.
Be Friendly
If you are more social and extroverted, or simply want to spend some time with others, look into activities and events happening during your visit. Websites like Meetup are a great resource for safe, fun events.
Have Emergency Information
Write important contact information on a card or in a notebook you can easily access. If you lose your wallet, phone or other travel documents, you will still have important information saved. Send a friend or family member all of your travel information, so they have access to your flight times, hotel location and scheduled activities.
Use Common Sense
If a location looks suspicious, avoid it. Don’t draw too much attention to yourself with flashy clothes. Drink in moderation, so you aren’t drunk and alone at a bar. In general, trust your gut instinct in any situation.
