For the longest time, travelers touted home rentals as an affordable alternative to hotels. However, is that really the case? Do you really get more for your money when you book an Airbnb versus a hotel room?
A study from Deluxe Holiday Homes looked at destinations throughout Europe to highlight where it’s actually cheaper to book a hotel room than a home rental, looking at the cost of renting a private room and buying breakfast as compared to the cost of a hotel room that comes with breakfast. The study found there’s quite a number of destinations where it’s much cheaper to opt for a hotel room — in some cases a hotel room is nearly half the cost of a home stay.
The study identified Warsaw, Poland, as the destination where travelers will save the most by booking a hotel versus a home rental, with average hotel rates sitting at around $46, compared to the average home rental rate of $76 per night. Other destinations that showed significant price differences, with hotel rates proving the most affordable, include Bucharest, Budapest, Prague, Berlin, Vienna, Brussels, Rome, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Dublin.
On the flip side, the study also identified destinations where you’ll get more for your money by renting a home stay instead. These destinations included Geneva, London, Paris, Barcelona and Oslo, among others.
