Study Finds Holiday Airfare is at Its Lowest Since 2022

A study from Dollar Flight Club found airfare for the 2025 holiday season is at its lowest since 2022, with travelers able to save as much as 40 percent on select routes.

The study looked at approximately 250 high-volume holiday routes, and more than 80 airports and 40 destinations, to find domestic median prices are nearly 20 percent lower (compared to a 2022–2024 baseline) and international median prices are approximately 9 percent lower. However, if you’re flexible with your plans, you can save up to 40 percent.

Over Christmas and New Year’s, you’ll find the biggest price drops are on routes between the Mid-Atlantic and New York City to Orlando; Los Angeles to Sao Paulo; Texas to Cancún; and Chicago to Rome/Milan. In fact, when flying between the Mid-Atlantic or New York City to Orlando, you could pay less than $40 round-trip, with the right flight choices.

Meanwhile, route withstanding, the cheapest overall destinations this holiday season include Orlando, Tampa, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Dallas, domestically. Overall cheapest international destinations over the holiday period include Vancouver, Mexico City, Cancún and Sao Paulo.
