Theo’s Pizza, Camberwell, London

Everywhere you turn in London there is a new pizza restaurant, and competition continues to grow. As a result Theo’s finds itself in a tough environment, but, so far, it looks to have carved out a niche. Throughout the week its 50 or so seats are reliably full, and it’s difficult to get a walk-in table on the weekends.

Once you sit down it’s not hard to see why the place has proven so popular. Staff is friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere is great. A smattering of birthdays here, a couple of dates over there, but no one demographic is so dominant the normal punter feels out of place.

The menu is fairly limited, but there is a pizza for all tastes. Ingredients are high quality and the base itself is thin and crispy in the way some places struggle to make them. Don’t forget to order some of the homemade chili sauce, which adds a kick to the meal. That said, the spicy salami itself packs a punch, and you might not want to add anything if you don’t want to heat things up.

Theo’s is a great neighborhood restaurant and one that deserves its success. With pizzas around $12 and a bottle of wine for $30, it’s a fairly cheap meal out.
