It’s one of the most frustrating things to occur when traveling: You finally get to your destination (or home) and you wait at the baggage carousel, only to realize your luggage never made it. Or worst yet, you tracked your AirTag attached to your luggage and see in real time it is nowhere near your airport.
Of course, some airports are worse than others when it comes to handling luggage. In fact, airports globally mishandle more than 26 million bags annually. But which of the world’s busiest airports truly takes the cake for the worst handling of luggage?
It’s none other than Miami International Airport. The report ranked airports according to baggage mishandling rates per 1,000 passengers. Miami International Airport had a whopping 5.5 percent mishandling rate, as well as more than 16,000 searches online for “lost and found” in relation to the airport.
Chicago O’Hare International Airport comes in second. Per million flights, there were 278 searches for “Chicago O’Hare International Airport lost and found.”
What other airports were named as worst for lost luggage? Rounding out the top (or, in this case, bottom) 10 are: Singapore Changi Airport, Denver International Airport, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Frankfurt am Main International Airport, Dubai International Airport, London Heathrow Airport, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport.
