Tips / Safety

A passport is every traveler’s lifeline back to the real world — you aren’t stepping on a plane home without one, so it’s important to keep yours safe at all times. Here are a few tips for hiding your passport while overseas.

Safety Underwear

Believe it or not someone thought it was a good idea to create underwear in which you can hide your valuables. Turns out they were right! There’s no shortage of underwear, from bras to boxer briefs, available that also contain secret pockets to help you hide your passport beneath your clothes.

Secret Pockets

Another great place to hide your passport is within a secret pocket in your luggage or backpack. Many pieces of gear have these today and they’re often hard for thieves to spot because the zipper or lock is hidden underneath an extra layer of material.

In a Safe

The worst thing you can do when leaving your passport in your hotel room is to put it someplace easily accessible. Many hotels and hostels will provide you with a safe in which to store your goods. Most thieves won’t risk discovery by fooling with a time-consuming lock to break.

A Neck Wallet

Neck wallets, which, as they sound, are worn around the neck, are a great way to keep your passport protected while you explore a new city. It’s nearly impossible for a pickpocket to nick your passport without you seeing it happen from around your neck and if you’re wearing bulky enough clothing they won’t even know it is there in the first place.
