Labor Day, and the days around it, are notoriously traffic ridden for travelers, whether hitting the road or passing through an airport.
Last year, around 16.1 million people went through U.S. airports alone, causing long lines and plenty of aggravation. The heaviest travel day is usually the Friday that kicks off the weekend, as people leave town for the three-day holiday. The next busiest day is Thursday, followed by Monday. Here are some tips to make it all more bearable.
Travel During Off-Peak Times
If you can swing a day or two on either end of the long weekend (leaving on Wednesday, for example, or returning on Tuesday), you’ll save significant time and headache.
Leave Early
Whether you’re on a road trip or headed to the airport, leave plenty of time to beat the lines or deal with the traffic.
Use PreCheck
If you can register in time, this will help save time at the airport.
Traffic Apps
Try traffic apps like Google Maps and Waze to find the best routes.
Be Patient
If you can’t hang, just stay home.
