As the gateway between the Midwest and American South, Louisville, Ky., offers up everything from fine dining to Southern comfort food. There’s a lot to choose from in the city, but here are a few of the best around.
This Brazilian steakhouse serves a seemingly never-ending array of meats and sides. Seriously, the waitress will keep bringing food until you tell her to stop. Avoid the salad bar and stick with the main course and prepare for a food coma afterward.
Downtown Louisville is chock full of delicious burger joints, but none have quite an extensive menu as Mussel & Burger Bar. If you’re more into seafood, their curry cream mussels are quite a delight.
Jack Fry’s is one of the most iconic restaurants in Louisville and a must-try if for no other reason than the shrimp and grits appetizer. The prices here are exorbitant but you truly get what you pay for. Try the seasoned chops for the main course.
It might seem odd to find Nigerian food in Louisville but this unassuming little café serves up delicious and authentic cuisine. The owners are hard at work in the kitchen and although it looks like a hole in the wall the food is better than most of the upscale joints in town.
As one of the newest restaurants in Louisville, Red Barn has already made a name for itself by serving up some incredible Southern comfort food. Its wide array of Southern dishes are generously portioned and the rustic décor makes you feel right at home. The BBQ is the real draw here.
