Destinations

dTravelers will explore everything from the exciting heights of the Andes to the Coffee Triangle to the sunny Caribbean coast. The Bolivar tour ventures through Bogotá, Medellín and Cartagena, and highlights the spirit of independence and the country’s cycling heritage.

“Few places bring together world-class terrain, authentic culture and a passion for cycling as naturally as Colombia,” said Dylan Reynolds, founder, Ride & Seek. “While landscapes like challenging Andean climbs, rolling coffee plantations and beautiful Caribbean beaches guide the route of our new tour, the country’s enthusiasm for cycling truly gives it its soul – it’s shared by everyday commuters on bustling streets and elite riders who dominate international races. Having left its turbulent past behind, Colombia today is open and welcoming, making this the perfect time to visit by bike.”

Over the course of three weeks guests will cover more than 900 miles and 83,000 feet of elevation gain. The ride follows the story of Simon Bolivar, “El Libertador,” whose pursuit of independence from the Spanish Empire continues to shape Colombia’s identity.

Highlights include:

Bogotá and the Ciclovía

Bogotá perches 8,600 feet high on a plateau surrounded by rolling hills and mountain peaks. The tour begins with a warm-up ride during the famous Ciclovía, a time where 75 miles of the streets are closed to cars so cyclists and pedestrians can roam free.

Villa de Leyva

Colonial Villa de Leyva looks like it was frozen in the 16th century thanks to its cobblestone streets and old-time plaza. Cyclists will explore quiet roads along the towns and ride through the desert’s farmlands and fossils.

The Andes and Alto del Sifón

The Andean region offers challenging rides with big climbs and exciting descents, such as Alto del Sifón (or El Sifón, as the locals call it). The climb is one of the longest paved, uninterrupted climbs in the world, and spans more than 70 miles and 15,000 feet of elevation gain. For those not up for the whole climb, there is an option to only do a section of it.

The Coffee Triangle

The UNESCO-listed Zona Cafetera is the heart of the country’s coffee culture. The local roads run through plantations and into small towns where coffee is world class and taken seriously. Make sure to stop by family-run fincas where freshly roasted beans smell strong and mid-morning stops for tintos are encouraged.

Medellín

Enjoy this rest day exploring the destination’s landscapes and urban culture, featuring exciting nightlife and modern attractions.
