How to Travel Between Denmark and Sweden Across Øresund Strait

Tips / Destination

Copenhagen, Denmark, and the southwestern coast of Sweden are located so ridiculously close together it would be a huge disservice to visit one and not the other. Even as little as a long weekend can be spent partly in the Danish capital city and partly in the Swedish town of Malmö. But how can you get yourself from one to the other across the waters of the Øresund Strait? Here are a few suggestions. (Remember to carry your passport or other photo ID with you as you will be crossing international waters.)

By Car

The most obvious and most liberating way to travel from eastern Denmark to western Sweden is to rent a car. Take the five-mile-long Øresund Bridge over and beneath parts of the strait to get from Copenhagen to Malmö in approximately 28 miles (or a 45-minute car ride depending on traffic). Crossing the bridge by private vehicle comes at a hefty price, however, of approximately $58.

By Train

A cheaper option is to cross the strait by train. The journey takes about 35 minutes and tickets can be purchased on RailEurope.com or at local train stations for anywhere $8– 15 depending on the day and time of travel.

By Bus

A final option for those who are not in a time crunch is the bus. For as little as $3–5, a one-way journey may take up to one hour, and companies like Flixbus leave every four hours.

Interior Upgrades Begin Rolling Out Across United Fleet

United Airlines is in the midst of a major initiative to modernize its fleet over the next several years. After first announcing the plan in 2021, planes fitted with United’s signature interior are finally beginning to appear across the airline’s narrowbody fleet of Boeing and Airbus planes. United flyers are sure to notice these enhancements from the moment they step on board: Each new or updated plane sports remodeled seats, seatback entertainment screens for everyone, Bluetooth connectivity and more, all adding up to a better experience on every journey.
