Under $100: Hammondsport, N.Y.

The small town of Hammondsport sits on Keuka Lake in New York’s famed Finger Lakes region. It’s a beautiful, peaceful destination to explore during the popular summer season, or any time of the year.

For seasonal, homemade baked goods, look no further than Keuka Artisan Bakery & Deli. If you aren’t staying at a bed and breakfast and plan to venture out, grab one of their delicious breakfast sandwiches, pastries or breads and a coffee for about $10. Gluten-free options are available.

The best way to see Hammondsport is from the lake. Rent a kayak from Keuka Watersports. Located on the southern end of Keuka Lake, rentals start at $15 per hour or $30 for the day.

A stay in the Finger Lakes isn’t complete without a visit to some wineries. Start your tasting experience at Bully Hill Vineyards. Take a free tour of the vineyard or go straight to the tasting room for a $5 sampling of wines. Steps away from the tasting room, Bully Hill’s restaurant serves up delicious salads and sandwiches. Have lunch on the outdoor patio overlooking Keuka Lake for about $20.

Next, stop by Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellar for a complimentary tasting. It’s easy to spend the day at tastings and there are plenty of other wineries to visit, including Heron Hill Winery and Ravines Wine Cellars.

For a change of pace, check out the Finger Lakes Boating Museum. Open daily, the museum displays artifacts from the antique boating world. Admission is $6 for adults and free for children 12 and under.

The Village Tavern Restaurant and Inn is the perfect spot for a late dinner. Within walking distance of Keuka Lake, the dimly lit restaurant and bar are ideal for an intimate dinner. The hearty entrees start at $18.
