Lincoln City, Oregon, makes for a great fall beach destination. Of course, you should take in the 7 miles of beach (less crowded once fall hits), but also make room in your itinerary for some local favorite activities.

The 45^th Annual Fall Kite Festival kicks off Sept. 19 and, over multiple days, spectators take to the beach to see a myriad of giant kites waving in the wind, with event activities including nighttime illuminated kite flights, expert kite demonstrations, kite-making workshops and more.

Lincoln City is additionally now celebrating the 25^th anniversary of its Finders Keepers tradition. Over the years, more than 3,000 artisan-created, hand-blown glass floats have been hidden along the 7 miles of city beach, and if you find one, it’s yours to take home! You can then register your float and you’ll receive a certificate of authenticity, as well as information regarding the artist who made the float you found. Hunting down one of these unique keepsakes is an excellent excuse to get your steps in on the sand.

Visit the North Lincoln County Historical Museum through Nov. 15 to see the 25 Years of Finders Keepers exhibit, which celebrates the local tradition, displays floats from years past and showcases the artists involved in the project.
