Under $100 / North America

One of the most epic battles of the Civil War took place in a town with the same name as the famous speech delivered by then-President Abraham Lincoln. But despite its notoriety for a bloody battle between the North and South, Gettysburg is also a popular tourist destination for nature buffs and lovers of all things small-town.

Wake up with the sunrise with a hearty country breakfast at Gettysburg Family Restaurant where you can fuel up on waffles, omelets and coffee before delving into a day of history.

Your day should begin at Gettysburg National Military Park’s battlefield. Set on 6,000 acres, travel back to the summer of 1863 as you walk, ride horses, Segway, drive or bus your way through the fields where the historic Civil War battle took place. The admission price to the museum is only $9, and prices increase depending on the exhibits and attractions you choose to visit (e.g., $35 for a bus tour with a licensed guide, or $42 for a value package that includes a tour, film and museum visit).

Take a food break at Hunt’s Battlefield Fries and Café. Aside from the obvious offerings (French fries), the culinary gem keeps it simple with cheesesteaks, sandwiches and salads.

In the afternoon, visit Gettysburg old town area for a ghost tour, or indulge your senses with a visit to Reid’s Winery or Mason Dixon Distillery.

Kick back and reward yourself at the end of the day with a fresh pie from Tommy’s Pizza where small 10-inch pizzas are $7.19 and large 14-inch pizzas are $10.39.
