Mesa sits about 20 miles outside of Phoenix, Ariz. The natural beauty of the Sonoran Desert and Tonto National Forest surrounds the city. Discover the unique landscape of the urban desert town.

 

Enjoy breakfast with a southwestern spin at Sunnyside Breakfast Lounge. Savor classic dishes alongside fresh juices and breakfast cocktails. Spend about $15–20. Walk off your breakfast at Usery Mountain Regional Park. The park offers more than 29 miles of scenic trails for hiking and biking. Take a self-guided sculpture tour of downtown Mesa. The collection currently includes 38 pieces.

 

Grab lunch and some brews at Desert Eagle Brewing. The microbrewery offers traditional and seasonal brews and pub grub. Lunch costs about $10–15. Learn more about the history of the southwestern United States at the Arizona Museum of Natural History. Exhibits detail the natural and cultural history of the southwest. Adult admission costs $12. The museum is closed on Mondays.

 

For a quirky dinner, try Beaver Choice. The restaurant features Canadian, Polish, German and Scandinavian dishes alongside American classics on its extensive menu. Thursday is all-you-can-eat pierogi night, with soup, salad and unlimited pierogis for $11.95. End your evening with a nightcap at Postino East Wine Café. The bar and restaurant features indoor and outdoor seating where guests can enjoy the sizeable wine selection. A glass starts at $9.
