While Earth Day is April 22, it’s never too early to plan an Earth Day trip to one of these eco-friendly properties.
Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya
Situated on 590 acres in Riviera Maya, Mexico, the property works with several local organizations on sustainability efforts. Weekly, guests have the opportunity to meet with resort biologists to discuss the local coral reef restoration project. The resort hosts a turtle conservation program, in place in 2010. The property uses electric boats and carts to avoid emissions pollution.
Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort Spa and Casino
A first and only of its kind on the island, the Resort Wildlife Ambassador program prioritizes animal welfare. Through Camp Hyatt, young guests have the opportunity to participate in the program. On Earth Day, the resort hosts a coastal cleanup beginning at 7 a.m.
Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa
Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa is one of two Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold certified resorts in Hawai’i. The property implemented various sustainability initiatives:
- Partnering with Environmental Solutions, Soil Thrive and Maui Visitors Bureau on a three-month pilot program to aid in landscape and lawn health
- Repurposing items including cardboard, egg cartons, toilet paper rolls, paper bags and corks to make toys for parrots living on the property
- Installing a rooftop photovoltaic system, which reduced the property’s energy usage by 38 percent in the last 12 years
This private resort, set on 45 acres, works toward protecting the local wildlife. Through its Rescue to Restore program, the resort focuses on restoring endangered coral species throughout the island. The resort uses solar and generator power and looks to enhance its solar capabilities. Seawater is converted to drinking water on site using a desalination process.
