From the mountains to the flatlands, Arkansas offers scenic views aplenty. One of the best (and easiest) ways to take in those views is by taking a trip along one of the state’s scenic byways.
This byway isn’t exclusive to Arkansas, but the Arkansas section was designated an “All-American Road” in 2021. The byway runs more or less parallel to the Mississippi River and through the Arkansas Delta. There are lots of historic spots to stop along the way, too.
This byway is Arkansas’s first national scenic byway, running along Crowley’s Ridge in the Delta. State parks and museums are scattered along this route, as well.
This byway, which Arkansas shares with Oklahoma, stretches more than 50 miles and passes through Ouachita National Forest. It also climbs the second-tallest mountain in Arkansas, Rich Mountain.
The first Arkansas state-designated byway will take you from the top all the way to nearly the bottom of the state, from the Missouri border and down to Louisiana. There are quite a lot of scenic stops along such a long drive, including the Grand Canyon of the Ozarks and Hot Springs National Park.
