Tips / Destination

Cartagena is famous for its colorful, colonial buildings and rich culture. The diverse culinary scene in the city is often overlooked. As one of the most visited destinations in South America you can bet it offers some of the tastiest options in Colombia.

Café del Mar

Café del Mar rests atop Baluarte Santo Domingo, offering prime views of the sea and the surrounding 17th-century fortifications. The cocktails are top-notch while the tasting menu serves excellent bar bites at a quality you might not expect. It’s a little on the pricier side, but well worth the money.

Donde Fidel

Donde Fidel is a Colombian institution. The bar is located next to the Portal de los Dulces in what can be a somewhat seedy part of town. Inside you’ll find a vibrant atmosphere with locals and travelers dancing the night away to salsa with some of the city’s best beer and cocktails in hand.

Café Havana

Café Havana sits directly in the center of Cartagena’s party center. The bar features live salsa bands and a youthful atmosphere. The Cuban-style bar is a favorite among locals for great music and cheap drinks.

Tu Candela Bar

Tu Candela enjoys an enviable reputation among locals and expats in Cartagena as a hybrid bar, dance club and restaurant that caters to all sorts of crowds. The music is always on point while the beer flows nonstop. The real attraction, though, is what just may be the city’s best ceviche.

Alquimico

The rooftop bar at Alquimico is always packed, but there’s plenty of room in the lower levels of this funky restaurant and bar. Each floor offers up different decorations that affect the overall atmosphere so there’s plenty of space for dancing or just chilling with friends. The cocktails are always served just right and the DJ knows how to get a party started.

Gift giving can be difficult for some that don’t know what a traveler is looking for or needs, but these three gifts are a great starting point.
