If you’ve been considering planning a road trip this upcoming year, but you’ve already done the cross-country thing here in the States, why not consider taking your road trip experience abroad? Australia’s Golden Outback region covers more than half of Western Australia and provides plenty of reasons to explore it all by car. Here are just five of many reasons to embark on an Australian Golden Outback road trip.
1. You have lots of options.
You can easily tailor your Golden Outback road trip to fit your length of stay. Just want to fit in a short one- or two-day road trip at the end or beginning of a larger Australia visit? It’s possible. Want to take a longer, multiday excursion? That’s an option, too.
2. The routes are varied.
While you might think that since the Golden Outback is one region, it all looks the same, that couldn’t be further from the truth. The Southern Coast, for example, features gorgeous coastal areas and biodiversity hot spots, while the Goldfields take you through Australia’s gold rush history — and that just scratches the surface.
3. Arts and culture are on the menu.
Don’t think the only thing to enjoy while on a Golden Outback road trip is the scenery. Depending on where you drive, you’ll find lots of arts, culture and history, too. Beyond the aforementioned gold rush history in the Goldfields, you’ll find silo art trails in the Wheatbelt, historic structures, ghost towns and more.
4. See Australia’s largest rock.
You’ve seen Uluru. But did you know there’s a rock monolith in Australia twice Uluru’s size? You can visit Mount Augustus in the Gasocyne Murchison region in the Golden Outback.
5. Planning is easier than ever.
To top everything off, planning a Golden Outback road trip is easier than ever now, thanks to the region’s new road trip guide and holiday planning tool, with more than 100 pages of need-to-know information, tour options and self-driving itineraries.
