This fall, travel company Discover the World chose five of its best autumn trips for travelers to best experience the season in all of its glory. These five trips include departures throughout September, October and even into November, allowing travelers to take advantage of spotting wildlife, enjoying seasonal colors and even witnessing early aurora borealis sightings. Consider these five fall trips:
For Stargazing, Autumn Aurora, Lava Fields and Geothermal Bathing – Iceland
Spend two nights at Hotel Ranga, a property situated deep in southwest Iceland’s countryside. Hotel Ranga boasts its own observatory equipment for stargazing opportunities, as well as an on-site astronomer to guide guests through the night sky. The hotel also offers an efficient aurora wake-up service. Also on this trip, guests enjoy an expert-guided tour of the Golden Circle and a visit to Blue Lagoon. Departures are Oct. 26 and Nov. 16.
For Coastal Scenery, Seafood and Autumnal Color – Atlantic Canada
This month, head to Atlantic Canada for a 13-night self-drive experience. Along the way, experience charming fishing villages and leaf-peeping opportunities at national parks in Kejimkujik, Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton. Other highlights include stops at UNESCO World Heritage site Lunenberg, Hopewell Rocks and Cabot Trail.
For Dramatic Fjords by Rail – Norway
Fall season in Norway entails fewer visitors and better chances to see the fjords with unobstructed views. See the fjords bathed in autumnal colors on this 12-night trip across a series of rails beginning all the way back in London. Ride the Flam’s Corkscrew Railway to reach the Stegastein viewpoint platform overlooking Aurlandsfjord.
For Wilderness Skills and Fall Colors – Sweden’s Lulea Archipelago
Allocate time for a trip to Swedish Lapland for the start of the northern lights season. This four-night trip introduces travelers to the aurora borealis from Lulea’s Archipelago in the Bay of Bothnia. Guests also stay at Brandon Lodge to learn Nordic wilderness skills and take northern lights walks. After busy days, hit the sauna or take a dip in the lodge’s outdoor Jacuzzi.
For a Date with the World’s Largest Land Predator – Canada
Now’s your chance to finally view polar bears in all their might on the Polar Bear Adventure. This trip is offered only between October and November, for polar bear season lasts just six weeks. On this trip, travelers venture around Churchill in Manitoba to see the world’s greatest concentration of polar bears. The five-night trip also offers unparalleled views of the Arctic tundra to spot other wildlife like Arctic fox and snowy owls. Travelers might even see the northern lights.

Insta FeedHow to Leave No Trace While Traveling
Visit any popular destination and you’ll find an abundance of one thing: tourists. While there’s nothing wrong with that — travel does, after all, bring us closer to the world around us — tourists have earned quite the negative reputation for leaving destinations worse for wear. Whether it’s a visitor climbing to the top of the temple at Chichen Itza or tourists scratching their name on the wall of Rome’s Colosseum, it seems humans are always leaving their mark on the places they visit.
