Traveling doesn’t have to mean taking time off work. You can master a short weekend trip while making it feel like a vacation. Follow these simple suggestions while planning your next weekend getaway.
Plan ahead. Make sure you pick a destination that’s feasible. Sure, you could drive 10 hours after getting off work on Friday, but that’s probably not the most comfortable option. Considering things like traffic and travel time beforehand are key to preventing frustration later on.
Be packed and ready to go. If possible, pack lightly and start early. Avoid throwing clothes in a bag as you run out the door. Even though it’s only a few days, forgetting essential items is always stressful.
Don’t over-plan. While this seems to counter the first suggestion, the reality is over-planning usually leads to stress. Chose a few activities you want to accomplish but give yourself plenty of time to enjoy and stumble upon unexpected things.
Make it a vacation. Too often, we take our work with us when we leave the office. If you’re serious about your weekend trip, take the time to disconnect. Simple things like leaving your phone on silent or removing it from the dinner table can help get you in the vacation mindset.
