Tips / Destination

The Euros are fast approaching, so what better way to get involved than to go to Europe and watch the matches with the locals? Poland are in group C along with Germany, Northern Ireland and Ukraine, who beat Germany 2-0 in the qualifiers, and have got the firepower of Robert Lewandowski on their team, so it will be an exciting group to watch. Poland also has the advantage of being an affordable destination, the home of delicious food and is responsible for some of the best vodkas in the world. All of this and the soccer combined means it should add up to a fun vacation, indeed.

Good-quality vodka in Poland is cheap. So, on June 12, Poland’s first match against Northern Ireland, head over to Krakow, where the excitement should be buzzing. The best place to watch the game would be at Bania Luka. It’s a popular bar with the locals where you can try their selection of vodkas at just a euro each! Try and find bison-grass vodka — after tasting it you’ll never go back to that Russian stuff ever again.

Poland’s second game is against Germany, but it won’t be as easy as their last meeting. For this match, it’s recommended to stay away from the vodka and stick to the beer. This time, travel to Warsaw where you can visit the beer heaven known as Piw Paw. Locals love it for their vast selection of craft beers, lagers, ales and etc., all 91 of them on tap.

Poland’s third game is against Ukraine, and they are no team to be complacent about. For this match, it would be wise to look at sampling some of the delights that Poland offers in terms of cuisine. The Browar Piwna bar in Gdansk would be your best venue, with a great range of homemade, tasty meals. Here you will be sure to make friends with the locals, and watch Poland in their campaign to be victors of Europe.
