If you like the vibe of Burning Man, but prefer a landscape that doesn’t quite resemble Mars, Electric Forest is the party you’ve been looking for. Set in the idyllic woods of Rothbury, Mich., this four-day festival looks like a fairy tale for ravers. Like Shambhala in British Columbia, this festival takes its already beautiful surroundings and turns them into something out of Alice in Wonderland, bursting with lights, colors and sound.
Electric Forest has a wide range of music, but its focus is electronic music and jam bands. This year’s headliners include Bassnectar, Major Lazer and three shows by The String Cheese Incident, in addition to performances by The Disco Biscuits, STS9 and Porter Robinson (live). The organizers announced five groups will be hosting their own, curated stages: AnjunaDeep, All Good Records, Bassrush, Soul Clap’s House of Funk and Night Bass.
Unlike Burning Man and Shambhala, Electric Forest offers three tiers of VIP packages for those who need some added comfort. The basic Good Life package offers air-conditioned restrooms and private food vendors while the top level Frontier package has private rooms with WiFi and a daily cleaning service. RV camping is also available.
