Trends / Unique Itineraries & Tours

Every year in July, Calgary, Canada, is taken over by the world’s largest rodeo, the Calgary Stampede. The stampede is an Old-West themed celebration for 10 days filled with music, rodeo events, parades, pancakes, games, rides and contests.

Stampede Park in downtown Calgary hosts the event, showcasing bareback bull riding, steer wrestling, amusement park rides, livestock shows, races and musical performances.

The Half Mile from Hell is an infamous event at the fair with four horse-drawn, tented wagon races in the derby pits. This event can be dangerous, even fatal, and draws a large crowd to watch and place bets. Tickets for this race sell out well in advance of the fair.

Food venders are scattered all over the venue, but the flapjacks are a culinary staple at the rodeo. Tickets for the rodeo start at $40 a person and grant admission into the park, while separate tickets are sold for evening shows, concerts and races.

Beginning in 1912, the Calgary Stampede is now a staple on the city calendar and drew more than 1.4 million visitors on its 100-year celebration. For those interested in white cowboy hats, large belt buckles, cowboy boots, cash prizes and much more, the Stampede is the place to be.
