The trend of taking a babymoon is on the rise. Never heard of a babymoon? In the months leading to the baby’s arrival, expecting couples opt to book a getaway as a last hurrah before the late-night feedings and diaper changes begin. This is a perfect time for a couple to reconnect and relax before meeting their bundle of joy.
Make sure you time the trip right. Nausea is common in the first trimester, and the third trimester can be uncomfortable for pregnant women as the baby gets bigger, so aim to take your trip during the second trimester. Agree on an appropriate destination. Now is not the time to book a hiking excursion or visit an amusement park. Instead, search for a place centered around relaxation. Consider a location a brief flight or train ride away to ensure stress-free travel. Consult with your hotel on the best room for your needs — close to the elevator, king-size bed, etc.
Check any restrictions to the area by consulting travel advisories from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website. Even if the area is safe, make sure you know where the nearest hospital is in case any problems arise.
Before planning any travel as an expecting mother, be sure to consult with your doctor.
