China opened a fetching new pedestrian bridge that allows visitors in the city of Changsha to cross the river via a number of different paths.

The bridge, called the Lucky Knot, is 185 meters long and 24 meters high, according to the design firm behind the bridge, NEXT Architects. NEXT won an international competition to design the new bridge, which spans the Dragon King Harbor in Changsha’s Meixi Lake District.

The firm designed the bridge “with recreational, ecological and tourist activities in mind.” The river banks are connected at different levels.

“The shape of the Lucky Knot was inspired by the principle of the Mobius ring, as well as by the Chinese knotting art. In the ancient decorative Chinese folk art, the knot symbolizes luck and prosperity,” said John van de Water, partner, NEXT architects Beijing, in a statement on the firm’s website.

The bridge’s concept is designed to fuse history, technology, art, innovation, technology and visuals. The bridge offers river and mountain views and will also hold an LED light show.
