Tips / Travel

Traveling with a group of friends or family members can be a rare and memorable experience, but with a group comes varied personalities, interests and opinions. To maintain the excitement and joy involved in group travel, keep the following tips in mind before and during your getaway.

Divvy up the duties. In the planning stages, try to delegate tasks to different people, such as booking accommodations, reserving hotel tables or organizing daytrips. This will remove the pressure from any one person to do everything and will foster a sense of equality before the trip even begins.

Ask for suggestions. Start a pre-trip group chat where all involved can suggest things to do and see while away. Acknowledge some people may want to do different things, and that’s okay.

Keep track of expenses. Use a Google doc or other shared document to keep track of who pays for what. Knowing exactly what each person has paid for will help sort out finances when the trip is finished, making it easier to repay each other via PayPal or Venmo.

Schedule some solo time. Staying in the company of fellow travelers all day, every day can be taxing, especially for quieter personalities. Take a few quiet moments by engaging in a solo walk, run or yoga session.
