As any extremely nervous flyer will tell you, hours can be spent researching exactly how many flights have gone down while flying to your destination, how likely it is to survive a plane crash and the safety features of the particular aircraft you happen to be flying. To make all of that research a little easier, and possibly alleviate some anxiety, there is the Am I Going Down? app.
Simply enter in your route, airline and aircraft type and the app uses flight data and records to calculate the likelihood of your plane crashing. Using the information given and real-life data, the app calculates the one-in-a-very-large-number chance you have in going down. While those abstract numbers are not always reassuring for nervous flyers, the app breaks it down further, by telling you how many years you would have to fly your particular route daily before a fatal crash would occur, a number which is often far, far more than the number of years in a human life. It may seem silly to seasoned flyers, but to those who like a little science on their side, the facts are nicely reassuring, especially during turbulence.
The app is currently available in the iTunes store for 99 cents.
