It’s no surprise airports are busy during the summer. With school vacations and sunny weather, travelers save their precious vacation time for the dog days of summer. Those who plan to fly, however, have extra concerns to consider as airports fill up and flight delays are all too common for the anticipated 234 million passengers who book summer flights. Here’s a brief list of the summer season’s busiest airports that typically experience the most flight delays, according to a study conducted by MilesCard.com, leaving vacationers annoyed and irritated.

Three of the top four spots belong to New York City area airports, including Newark Liberty (EWR), LaGuardia (LGA) and John F. Kennedy (JFK). Newark’s arrivals landed on time only 66.5 percent of the time, while LaGuardia and JFK arrivals were on time 66.9 percent and 69.2 percent, respectively. Coming in at third place is San Francisco International Airport, with 69 percent of on-time arrivals.

The trend of delays seems to stick to the East Coast, with the subsequent poor arrival times belonging to Boston’s Logan International Airport and Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.

On the flipside, the airports with the highest number of on-time arrivals are located westward at the Hawai’ian airports of Kahului (OGG) (88 percent) and Honolulu (HNL) (86.5 percent), and at mainland airports in Salt Lake City, Utah (SLC) (85.3 percent), and Orange County, Calif. (SNA) (81.9 percent).
